Question Four and Five: Who will be the audience for your media product and how did you attract/address them?
I conducted spoken research into audience and what they look for by asking a range of people, both genders and all ages.
Who are they?
We've aimed our OTS at the group of film fanatics who enjoy film noir, our audience would be of any gender and from the ages of around 17-40.
Why did you chose this audience?
I chose this audience because our OTS is quite a broad thing, as it doesn't use anything too generic such as mushy love scenes or hard hitting action. It does however fit the conventions of Film Noir and anyone who isn't interested in that genre of film could find it boring.
How did you identify their generic pleasures/needs?
Our OTS is mysterious enough for a male audience to enjoy it, but also includes romance and danger which would stereotypically be aimed to attract the female audience. Also, the nostalgic sense we gained through setting it in the 80s would make an older audience more interested in it and it would be more enjoyable for them. The film also doesn't have a cliché love scene or a massive action stunt as its based for the film fanatics, and they've probably seen enough of those types of scenes.
Why would they like my product?
They'd like my product because it links romance, mystery and nostalgia, which would hit all areas of the intended audience so that they'd enjoy it. Furthermore i think they'd like it because its got a simple enough storyline but the editing isn't very conventional for modern films, so it wouldn't be boring.
How have I aimed my product at them?
I have used things such as iconography and music to excite them, and also i have modified bits to which the intended audience didn't like.
Here is the link to the initial feedback we received and as a result we modified things such as the still images at the start of our OTS. http://asmediastudiesemilyfoster.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/ots-feedback.html
What methods did you use to establish generic pleasure/responses to your products/ when/ how?
I used the suggestions which the focus group suggested and i put myself in the audience's point of view and changed things accordingly. Also, I mixed the themes of mystery/danger/love and nostalgia to engage and excite the audience which also would broaden the audience.

I attracted the audience by making the plot interesting but not over the top. It fits the conventions of many film noir films - anti-hero meets the femme fatal and one of them ends up murdered. By doing this i attracted fans of Film Noir and possibly a young audience of the niche market who are looking for something different to the norm of modern film.
The characters both attract each gender as the anti-hero is mysterious enough for people to want to know more about him, and the femme fatal is dressed in a provocative manner which would attract the male audience.
The enigma and mystery is built up throughout the OTS as it starts with the ending, something which is a popular chronology for film noir. Furthermore, this adds hook to my OTS and it links with the dark lighting to add mystery, The effect of this is that it would make the audience curious enough to want to see more of my film.
Signifiers such as the costume and the props involved would appeal to the audience because they would make the older audience feel nostalgic about things present in the 80s, and they could be new and exciting for the younger audience.
The soundtrack is different and for an audience looking for something non-commercial, the soundtrack would make them interested and it may appeal to them.
The audience feedback i've recieved so far can be found here and here. The first link was done by Survey Monkey and the second by peers in my media group.
From the audience feedback i learnt that my OTS will only appeal to the audience with prior knowledge of Film Noir and those who enjoy the 1980s.
